Meaning of Shloka– Acharya Chanakya says in the fifth verse of the first chapter of Niti Shastra that a woman with an evil nature, one who speaks harsh words, a woman of immoral character, a sly, evil-natured friend, a blunt servant who speaks to you and living in a house where there is a possibility of snakes, all these things are like death.
According to Acharya Chanakya, in a house where there are evil women, the condition of the householder is like that of a dead person because he has no control over himself and keeps moving towards death while brooding inside.
Similarly, a friend with a bad nature is also not worthy of trust, you never know when he will betray you. A servant or employee working under you who answers back to you can cause you unbearable harm at any time, living with such a servant is like drinking the cup of distrust.
Similarly, living in a place where snakes reside is also dangerous. You never know when you might get bitten by a snake.
