Punjab Police on Sunday busted a gang of inter-state cyber fraudsters who defrauded well-known industrialist Mr. Paul Oswal of Rs 7 crore.
Ludhiana Police Commissioner Kuldeep Singh Chahal said that two cyber criminals have been arrested and Rs 5.25 crore has been recovered from them.
He said that seven other members of the gang have been identified and efforts are on to nab them. The officer said that all nine members of the gang are from Assam and West Bengal.
The fraudsters committed fraud by withdrawing Rs 7 crore from various bank accounts of Vardhaman Group owner S P Oswal.
Police said that one of them introduced himself as a CBI officer and showed the industrialist a fake arrest warrant and threatened him with digital arrest.
The police cyber cell registered a case on Oswal’s complaint and said it resolved the matter within 48 hours.
Police said the accused have been identified as Atanu Chaudhary and Anand Kumar Chaudhary (both residents of Guwahati, Assam).
This is the second such incident within a week. Earlier, some fraudsters had duped a local industrialist of Rs 1.01 crore.
Rajneesh Ahuja was also duped when fraudsters claimed that the extortion amount had been transferred to his bank account. The fraudsters had also threatened him with an arrest warrant.
