India has expected the Bangladesh government to express its displeasure over the attacks, vandalism on Durga Puja pandals and attacks on Hindu minorities in its country.
On this, India has demanded that the Bangladesh government should take action and ensure the safety of Hindus.
“Many times, even at the highest level, we have said that minorities there (in Bangladesh) should be protected,” External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in response to several questions in this regard at a regular briefing here. Our expectation is that the government there will provide security to minorities and Durga Puja pandals. Any event that happens during Durga Puja is not good. Durga Puja gives an auspicious message and I wish everyone the best on this occasion.”
The meeting between Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Bangladesh’s interim government chief Mohammad Yunus was also discussed in the United Nations General Assembly. In this meeting, emphasis was laid on reviving SAARC.
When India’s opinion was asked in this regard, Jaiswal said that India gives great importance to regional cooperation and that is why it is encouraging BIMSTEC.
He blamed the attitude of a particular country for the stagnation of SAARC. However, he did not directly name Pakistan.
Apart from this, Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar’s participation was confirmed.
Jaiswal said that nothing has been decided yet on whether there will be a bilateral meeting with the leaders of Pakistan or not.
He said that no such confirmation has been made from the Indian side, but if interest is shown from the Pakistan leadership then it will be considered. It is noteworthy that late Union Minister Sushma Swaraj was the last Indian Foreign Minister to visit Pakistan in 2015.
