Kolkata. The BSF has arrested three smugglers with 1.1 kg gold at the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district. The BSF’s South Bengal Frontier DIG said that two gold biscuits worth Rs 75.14 lakh were found taped to the axle of a tractor trolley returning from the field across the border fence.
The DIG said the company commander sent a special patrol team and alerted all the jawans. A tractor with a trolley attached was crossing the fence gate from the field. They found two gold biscuits stuck with tape on the right axle hub of the trolley wheel. The BSF has arrested three people. He said the owner driver of the tractor and trolley is a resident of Katlamari village under Raninagar police station area of Murshidabad. All three were taken to the BOP. He said during interrogation the main accused confessed to the crime and said that he was involved in the smuggling attempt from the beginning.
He said that to deceive the BSF jawans, he drove his tractor across the fence and said that he wanted to take care of his crops. Near the zero line, he collected gold from Bangladeshi smugglers and hid it under the trolley. After this, he crossed the fence and went to the border. During this, he was stopped and searched. He said that the main accused along with his two accomplices and the gold have been handed over to the Customs Department in Berhampur for further legal action.
