Man took the first step on the moon in 1969. In these 55 years, space agencies around the world have landed humans and their spacecraft on the Moon many times.
Even after so many missions, many puzzles on the Moon are still too difficult for humans to understand, including time.
Imagine, if you step on the moon as an astronaut and have a watch in your hand, then you will be surprised to know that time moves faster on the moon than on Earth.
This remained a puzzle for scientists for many years, but now this puzzle has been solved. Scientists have found out how much faster time moves on the Moon than on Earth and what is the reason behind it?
A new research published in the Astronomical Journal has revealed that time moves faster on the Moon than on Earth.
“If we are on the Moon, the clocks will run differently {than on Earth},” said Bijunath Patla, a theoretical physicist at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), who was involved in the study.
Patla and his colleague Neil Ashby calculated this by using some of the old theories of famous physicist Albert Einstein. Research shows that the movement of a clock is affected by the gravitational potential and its relative motion at its location.
How fast and what is the reason?
Scientists say that because the Moon’s gravitational force is weaker than Earth’s, clocks on the Moon run faster than Earth’s day, with a difference of about 56 microseconds, or 0.000056 seconds.
A difference of 56 microseconds a day between a clock on the Moon and a clock on Earth is a huge difference when it comes to navigation.
NASA is going to send a new mission
55 years after landing on the moon for the first time, NASA is now preparing to send humans back to the moon under the Artemis mission.
This mission is said to be very important for NASA to find out more about Earth’s natural satellite Moon.
Under the Artemis mission, NASA plans to study places on the moon’s surface where bases can be established and which can later be used to go deeper into the vast void of the universe. Scientists are also planning to install railway tracks on the Moon.
