Working continuously without taking a day off proved so costly for a person that he died due to organ failure. The man from China worked for 104 days.
During this time, he took only one day off. According to the South China Morning Post, the deceased has been identified as A’bao. He worked as a painter. He died due to pneumococcal infection.
Bao signed a contract with a company in February last year. He promised to complete the work by January this year.
After this he was given work in Zhoushan city. After this he started working continuously. He worked continuously from February to May last year. In between he took leave only for one day on 6th April.
After this, his health started deteriorating on 25 May. His condition kept getting worse gradually. He had to be taken to the hospital on 28 May.
Doctors diagnosed multi-organ failure with a lung infection. Bao died on 1 June.
After Bao’s death, his family filed a case against the company. The family alleged that Bao died due to the company’s negligence.
However, it was said in the court that this is not a work-related illness. The family says that due to working so continuously, he did not get time to rest and that is why his health deteriorated.
The company says that A’bao was not given much work. There was no work pressure from the company. He was working more than he wanted.
The court found that the pneumococcal infection was caused by a weakened immune system. The court said that working for 104 consecutive days was a violation of China’s labor law.
According to the rules of China, only 8 hours of work is allowed in a day and 44 days in a week. The court ruled that the company will have to pay compensation of 4 lakh yuan to Bao’s family. Apart from this, 10 thousand yuan will have to be paid separately.
