Due to heavy rains in Tamil Nadu, people’s life is disrupted.

The situation of waterlogging continues in many districts. 10 people died in two days. Holiday has been declared for schools and colleges in some districts.

Train traffic has also been affected at many places. On the other hand, in view of the dire situation like floods, the Army has started rescue operations in many areas including Srivaikuntam.

Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary Shiv Das Meena on Tuesday informed that 10 people died as normal life was disrupted due to heavy rains in several parts of the southern districts in the last two days.

He said that the prediction of India Meteorological Department (IMD) was also wrong. It has rained more than expected.

“Ten people have died in Tirunelveli and Tuticorin districts due to the rains,” he said. Some lost their lives due to wall collapse, while some died due to electric shock.”

Giving some details about the rains, he said that southern districts, especially Tirunelveli and Tuticorin, witnessed record rainfall and floods. Meanwhile, Tirunelveli District Collector KP Karthikeyan gave details on the flood situation in the district and said, “The number of injured from the flood is nine.”

Holiday in colleges, trains also canceled
In view of heavy rains, holiday has been declared in schools and colleges in Tirunelveli and Tenkasi districts. Similarly, holiday has also been declared in Thoothukudi district.

At the same time, train services were also affected due to heavy rains in these districts on Wednesday. Southern Railway has released the list of cancelled/partially canceled trains.

Army took charge
Many areas are in the grip of floods and officials are carrying out rescue and relief operations. The rescue team of the Indian Army reached Srivaikuntam.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Indian Army are continuing to assist in rescue operations in the southern state. Operating in inclement weather, IAF helicopters Mi-17 V5 and ALH flew for more than 20 hours and dropped more than 10 tonnes of relief material.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Tuesday requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to release Rs 2,000 crore from the National Disaster Relief Fund for flood recovery.
