Ankara. Two American soldiers were attacked in Izmir, Turkey. The attackers were some youths who are members of the right-wing Turkish youth group. The local governor’s office confirmed the incident and said that 15 people involved in the attack have been detained. The Youth Union of Turkey (TGB) has claimed responsibility for the attack. They issued a statement saying, “We attacked American soldiers stationed on America’s largest attack ship USS Wasp. The hands of American soldiers are stained with the blood of our soldiers and thousands of Palestinians. So they cannot desecrate our country. Whenever you step on this land. We will welcome you in the same way you deserve.” Turkiye media reports quoted a statement from the Izmir governor’s office saying that members of the youth wing of the nationalist party attacked two American soldiers in Konak City. He said in the statement that five American soldiers intervened after the incident. All 15 attackers have been detained and an investigation into the matter has been started. A video of the incident has also been shared on social media platform X. At the same time, the US Embassy in Turkey confirmed the attack and said that the soldiers are now safe. He said in a statement, “We confirm reports that American service members aboard the US Wasp were victims of an attack in Izmir today, but they are now safe. We thank the Turkish authorities for taking immediate action in this matter.”
