New Delhi . Two heavily armed terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district.
Police sources said that alert army personnel in the Lam area of Nowshera sector late Sunday night spotted terrorists trying to infiltrate into this side from across the border.
In a joint operation with Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Army successfully foiled an infiltration bid by terrorists in Naushera sector. A Jammu-based Army public relation officer said ground and aerial surveillance equipment have been installed to monitor the area. “More frequent patrolling has been carried out in the area with troops deployed in key areas to prevent terrorist infiltration,” a defence spokesperson said. He said at around 7.30 pm on September 8, surveillance teams noticed suspicious movement of some persons in the area.
“This was followed by a fierce exchange of fire. The firing continued throughout the night. UAVs, night cameras and other surveillance equipment were deployed to keep an eye on the terrorists,” the spokesperson said. He said two terrorists were killed in the firing.
He said, a huge cache of warlike material including two AK-47 rifles, one M-4 rifle and one pistol was recovered. The spokesperson said that the army’s quick and coordinated response to this infiltration attempt reflects the synergy between the army, police and intelligence agencies. He said, search operations are on to completely secure the area. The army is alert and committed to thwart any such attempt in future.
