Ukrainian cities have once again been hit by Russian attacks. On Tuesday, Russia fired two ballistic missiles on the city of Poltava in central Ukraine.
At least 51 people were killed and 271 injured in this attack. Rescue operations are underway. A new crisis has deepened in Ukraine, which is already suffering from Russian attacks.
Minister in charge of arms production Oleksandr Komyshin and four other ministers have resigned from their posts. The Ukrainian government is in shock due to the sudden resignations of ministers before Zelensky’s visit to the US.
On the other hand, Zelensky has also sacked Rostislav Shurma, one of his deputy chiefs of staff. A leader of Zelensky’s party says that the vacant posts will be filled soon.
Amid the fierce war with Russia, Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs Olga Stefanishina, Strategic Industries Minister Oleksandr Kamyshin, Justice Minister Denis Maliska and Environment Minister Ruslan Strilets have resigned from their posts.
Kamyshin played a key role in boosting arms production in Ukraine amid Russia’s aggression. The resignations of Ukrainian ministers just before Zelensky’s US visit have put the government in a state of shock.
There has been no immediate response from the government on the ministers’ resignation offer. It is also not clear whether any of these ministers will be posted to other senior posts.
However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had indicated last week that a cabinet reshuffle would be carried out soon. At the same time, the head of his party in Parliament said on Tuesday that half of the current ministers are likely to be replaced.
Challenging days for Ukraine – Zelensky
“There are very challenging and important days ahead for Ukraine. We have to strengthen some areas of government and changes in its structure have been prepared. There will be changes in the presidential office as well,” Zelensky said in a Tuesday evening address.
Ukraine is facing new challenges in its war with Russia as it struggles to counter the advances made by Russian forces in the country’s east and seeks to thwart Moscow’s designs with its recent operation in the neighbouring Kursk region.

David Arakhamia, a senior lawmaker from Zelensky’s party, said major reshuffles were in store for the government. More than half of the ministers would be replaced.
