These days, presidential elections are going on in America and the candidates are doing everything possible to win. During this, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met former US President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. Zelensky described his meeting with Trump as very meaningful and said that the two leaders discussed stopping the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.
Zelensky said this
Zelensky shared a post on X and wrote that I had a very meaningful meeting with Donald Trump. I told him about our victory plans and we thoroughly reviewed the situation in Ukraine and the consequences of the war for our people. He said that I am grateful for this meeting. A just peace is needed. Zelensky further said that we have a common view that the war in Ukraine should be stopped. Putin cannot win. The Ukrainians must win.
Trump’s stance on Ukraine remained somewhat controversial
It is noteworthy that Trump’s stance on Ukraine has been somewhat controversial, he had previously criticized US aid to Ukraine and praised Russian President Vladimir Putin. In contrast, US President Joe Biden has reaffirmed US support for Ukraine, promising to provide necessary assistance to help Ukraine win the war. Recently, the US announced a new package of arms and aid for Ukraine amounting to approximately eight billion US dollars.
Trump had talked about stopping Russia-Ukraine
Trump assured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that if he wins the 2024 election he can end the Russia-Ukraine war very quickly. “We have a very good relationship with Zelensky, and as you know, I also have a very good relationship with President Putin,” Trump said. “And I think if we win, I think we’ll solve this very quickly,” he said.
