There are national elections in Pakistan today. Voting continues from Peshawar, Karachi to Islamabad and Lahore.

These elections are taking place amid incidents of terrorist attacks, killings of opposition leaders and jailing of former PM Imran Khan.

The United Nations has also expressed doubts about the elections amid this violent environment. Referring to the 24 terrorist attacks that have taken place so far, the UN said that it is a matter of concern that such a security system is in place.

Apart from this, UN has also raised questions on the killings of candidates of many parties in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The United Nations said that candidates, parties and even the offices of the Election Commission are under attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

Apart from the United Nations, America has also said regarding Pakistani elections that freedom of expression seems to be in crisis. Elections should be held in a fair and peaceful environment.

US State Department Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel said that we are keeping an eye on the kind of incidents that have happened. Pakistan has responded to the doubts of the United Nations.

Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said that the security system is strong in the entire country. Apart from this, 5 percent tickets have also been given to women. Baloch said, ‘Pakistan looks forward to electing an inclusive and democratic government.

We want that the rule of law should be maintained and the fundamental rights of the people should not be violated. Everyone’s rights are being protected while remaining within the ambit of the Constitution.

Apart from this, Baloch termed the allegations of harassment, arrest and illegal detention of leaders of Imran Khan’s party PTI as wrong. Baloch said that Pakistan’s judicial system gives impartial decisions.

It is noteworthy that on Wednesday also there were two terrorist attacks in Pakistan, in which 28 people were killed. Let us tell you that many terrorist attacks have taken place in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan recently.
