The White House said it is aware of the allegations made in the US against Adani Group Chairman and Indian billionaire Gautam Adani.
US prosecutors have alleged that Gautam Adani and 7 other accused in this case had given a bribe of Rs 1750 crore to a senior official of Andhra Pradesh.
Gautam Adani’s nephew Sagar Adani is also among the accused. It is alleged that Adani Group had given this bribe to get the contract for India’s largest solar project.
Adani Group has completely denied these allegations, calling them baseless. At the same time, Indian Government officials have not commented on this yet.
At a media briefing on Thursday, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters that the administration is aware of the allegations against Adani.
“We are aware of these allegations and I would ask you to reach out to the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) and the DOJ (Department of Justice) for specific information,” she said.
Describing the relations between India and America as strong, Jean-Pierre said that the relations between the two countries are based on a strong foundation. “We are confident that we will navigate this issue the same way we navigate other issues,” he said.
Adani Group’s reply
On Thursday, Adani Group termed the US allegations as baseless, saying, “The allegations made against the directors of Adani Green by the US Department of Justice and the US Securities and Exchange Commission are baseless and we reject them.”
At the same time, Congress party leader Rahul Gandhi demanded the arrest of Adani. He said, “We demand that Adani be arrested immediately. But we know that will not happen because Modi is saving them.”
The BJP criticized Rahul Gandhi’s attack on Prime Minister Modi and said that the four states mentioned in the US courts did not have BJP governments at the time. BJP spokesperson and MP Sambit Patra said, “The law will take its course.”
