Quality healthcare will be ensured in the country. The National Medical Commission (NMC) has started the process of registration of all MBBS doctors eligible to practice in India on its portal. Under this, all doctors will have a unique ID.
Registration of MBBS doctors
NMC said in a recent notice that all MBBS doctors registered on the Indian Medical Register (IMR) will have to re-register on NMR. All medical colleges/institutions are interlinked on the State Medical Council (SMC) portal. Some data will be visible to the general public as well, while other data will be visible only to NMC, SMC, National Board of Examinations (NBE), medical institutions and doctors.
This is how the registration will be done
For registration, doctors will need their Aadhaar ID, digital copy of MBBS degree and registration certificate from the State Medical Council/Medical Council of India where the doctor got registered for the first time.
Doctors will also be able to manually enter additional information about their qualifications. The application will automatically reach the concerned SMC for verification.
SMC will send the application to the concerned college or institute for review.
After verification the application will be sent to NMC. After verification by NMC a unique NMR ID will be issued.
During this process, doctors can opt to join the Healthcare Provider Registry, which will connect them to the broader digital healthcare ecosystem.
Through this portal, all the stakeholders including SMCs and educational institutions can login and verify the applications from a single platform.
Many facilities are available on NMR portal
There are a variety of features available on the NMR portal. These include the ability to track applications, suspend licenses, and issue NMR ID cards and digital doctor certificates.
