In which prominent leaders of India, America, Australia and Japan participated. In the meeting, the leaders talked about reforming the United Nations Security Council by expanding the permanent and temporary seats of the UNSC.
The ‘Joint Declaration’ stressed the urgent need to enhance representation in the UNSC, making it transparent, efficient, effective, democratic and accountable.
Everyone stressed on unity against terrorism and maritime security. They strongly condemned the continuous missile tests being conducted by North Korea and called it a big threat. North Korea’s recent missile tests have given sleepless nights to many countries including Japan.
India, the US, Australia and Japan said in a joint declaration at the Quad summit, “Together with global and regional partners, we will continue to support international institutions and initiatives that promote global peace, prosperity, and sustainable development.
The Quad nations said, “We will reform the United Nations Security Council. Expand the permanent and temporary membership of the United Nations Security Council. Make it more inclusive, transparent, efficient, effective, democratic and accountable.
The issue of permanent seat in UNSC also arose
At the Quad summit, the heads of states stressed on expanding the permanent seats of the UNSC. There was discussion on increasing the participation of African, Asian, Latin American and Caribbean nations in the Security Council.

The Quad countries discussed against terrorism and condemned the 26/11 and Pathankot attacks in Mumbai. The statement said, “We are committed to international cooperation and will work on a comprehensive and sustained way to prevent, detect and respond to threats posed by terrorism and violent extremism, in accordance with international law. We are committed to working together to promote accountability for terrorist attacks.”
The Quad countries condemned North Korea’s “destabilising ballistic missile launches to the world” and called it a “serious threat”. The declaration said, “We condemn North Korea’s continued launch of ballistic missiles and its violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions (UNSCR).
Biden and Modi meeting
On the sidelines of the Quad summit, US President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed ways to further deepen bilateral partnership in areas of mutual interest. Biden welcomed Modi at his residence in Wilmington, Delaware and the two leaders hugged each other.
The two leaders exchanged views on global and regional issues, including the Indo-Pacific region.
“The US partnership with India is stronger, closer, and more dynamic than at any time in history. Every time we sit down with Prime Minister Modi, I am deeply pleased with our ability to find new areas of cooperation. Today was no different,” Biden said on ‘X’.
