Dhaka: Bangladesh Police on Monday arrested Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, leader of Hindu group Samishta Sanatani Jot and secretary of ISKCON Trust, in Dhaka on Monday. People from the Hindu community demonstrated against his arrest and demanded his immediate release.

A police spokesperson said Chinmay was arrested from Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. However, he did not give details of the charges for which he was held. The Bengali language newspaper reported that Das was the leader of the ISKCON Trust. He was recently expelled from there.
Meanwhile, now a statement has come from ISKCON in this matter, they said, we have received disturbing news that Chinmoy Krishna Das, one of the prominent leaders of ISKCON Bangladesh, has been detained by Dhaka Police. It is outrageous to make baseless allegations that ISKCON has anything to do with terrorism anywhere. ISKCON urges the Government of India to take immediate action and talk to the Government of Bangladesh.
ISKCON leaders in Bangladesh were not immediately available for comment, but the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council condemned his arrest, saying it would tarnish the country’s image abroad.
On the other hand, quoting Gaurang Das Brahmachari, the main organizer of Sanatani Jot, a news portal said that Chinmay had to go to Chattogram from Dhaka by air. A case was registered against 19 people, including Chinmay, at the Kotwali police station in Chattogram for allegedly insulting the national flag of Bangladesh in the New Market area of Chattogram during a rally of the Hindu community on October 30.
Meanwhile, hundreds of people from the Hindu community took to the streets at Cheragi Pahar intersection in the port city demanding Chinmay’s immediate release. At the same time, people of Hindu community in the capital blocked Shahbagh intersection late in the evening in protest against the arrest. Several videos that went viral on internet media late on Monday evening showed Bangladeshi policemen targeting protesters marching towards Cheragi intersection. The senior advisor to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting also posted a picture of a blood-soaked Hindu protestor after the violent attacks.
