US proposal for ceasefire in Gaza failed in UNSC, Russia-China vetoed…

America’s resolution in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) regarding ceasefire in Gaza could not be passed because of China and Russia.

China and Russia used veto power against the resolution. 15 permanent and non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council voted in which 11 voted in favor and three against. One member, Guyana, abstained from voting.

In this proposal, there was talk of immediate 6-week ceasefire in Gaza and delivery of humanitarian aid.

Let us tell you that till now America’s stand in the war that has been going on for five months has been unfavorable regarding ceasefire. However, now he seems to be strict towards Israel.

US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas said, a historic mistake has been made by not passing this resolution.

Russian Ambassador Vasily Nebenja said that through this proposal America wanted to give a green signal to Israel to attack the Rafah border. About 23 lakh people of Gaza live in this area.

He said, this would have given Israel a free hand in Gaza and then it would have intensified the destruction and attacks. He said that the temporary members of the UNSC have drafted an alternative resolution.

This is a balanced proposal and every member will support it. China’s Ambassador to the UN has also supported this alternative proposal.

At the same time, the Russian Ambassador has described this also as inadequate. He said that there is something lacking in this proposal also. This may give Hamas a chance to run away from the deal.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Thursday that he expected the talks in Qatar to lead to at least a six-week ceasefire in Gaza.

Apart from this, there will be release of 40 Israeli hostages and release of Palestinians from jail. Now a proposal drafted by 10 temporary members can be presented in the UNSC.

It talks about immediate implementation of ceasefire during Ramzan.
