US President Joe Biden addressed the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday.
He said, ‘We stand firmly against aggression and will end the growing conflicts. When Russia attacked Ukraine, we could have just resisted.
But Vice President Kamala Harris and I understood that this was an attack. Our NATO allies and more than 50 countries stood up against it.
The good news is that Vladimir Putin’s war has failed. Ukraine is still free.’
Joe Biden said, ‘Putin tried to weaken NATO but NATO is bigger, stronger and more united than ever before.
We have also found 2 new partners – Finland and Sweden.
The world now has another choice: will we support Ukraine to win this war and maintain independence? Or will we turn a blind eye to aggression and a country will be destroyed?’ He said, ‘I know my answer, we are not going to turn a blind eye.
We will not abandon our support until Ukraine wins a lasting peace.
Mention of the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan
“As President Obama’s vice president, he asked me to work on ending the military operation in Iraq,” Biden said at the UN General Assembly.
That’s what we did. When I took office as president, Afghanistan had surpassed Vietnam as America’s longest war.
I wanted to end it and I did it.’ He said that it was a difficult decision. This question was raised before 4 American presidents, but I did not let it reach the fifth one.
‘We should not step back from the world’s help’
In his last speech at the UNGA, Biden said that Washington should not back down from helping the world. He referred to the danger of the ongoing tension between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon turning into a full-blown war.
Also, the remarks came amid the completion of nearly a year of Israel’s military operation against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
In his address, the US President stressed the need to end conflict in West Asia and the 17-month-long civil war in Sudan.
He highlighted the full support of the US and its Western allies for Ukraine, which has been facing Russian aggression since February 2022.
