Army Chief General Manoj Pandey said on Saturday that the country’s security can neither be ‘outsourced’ nor depend on others for it. He said, “It is very important for us to become self-reliant in terms of military equipment required to deal with future challenges.”
Addressing a defense conference, the Army Chief said that to meet the requirements of the Army, it is necessary to minimize the dependence on imports, which is extremely important in the plan to be ‘future ready’.
He said, “As the guardians of the country’s security, we cannot be completely dependent on imports to meet our capacity development needs and we are well aware of this. “This is an important aspect of our plan to be future ready.”
The Army Chief said at the Firstpost Defense Summit that the COVID-19 global pandemic and ongoing conflicts across the world have shown the impact of external dependency for essential military equipment.
He said, “Technology is emerging as a new strategic area in ground warfare. During the global pandemic, dependence on other countries for critical equipment and disruptions in supply chains occurred and its impact was visible. We also learned this lesson from the ongoing conflicts around the world.” General Pandey said, “These developments clearly underlined that the security of the nation can neither be ‘outsourced’ nor depend on others for it.”
