NATO member countries have been helping Ukraine since the beginning of the war. For Ukraine, which was fighting a defensive war, this help was very helpful in saving its capital.
But for the past one month, Ukraine has been continuously attacking inside Russia’s border. Western countries, while reacting to this, have made it clear to Ukraine that the weapons given by them will be used only to protect Ukraine’s land and not to capture Russian land.
According to a report published in Bloomberg, this caution of Western countries including the US is understandable. Because recently a meeting of NATO member countries was held in Germany. The purpose of this meeting was to announce the upcoming help to Ukraine.
Commenting on this meeting, Russian President Putin warned that the ‘red line’ should not be crossed. Ukrainian President Zelensky was constantly demanding long-range missiles from his partner Western countries.
The US, Britain and France gave them only the number of missiles that were sufficient to defend Crimea and other Ukrainian regions, and while giving them they also made it clear that these should be used only for defence.
Ukraine did not stop even after this policy of Western countries, now it is making its own weapons
Even though Western countries are helping Ukraine in this war, it is the Ukrainian army and government that are directly in the battlefield at this time.
Recently, after meeting Zelensky, Italy’s PM Meloni also said that we will continue to help Ukraine but these weapons will be used only to protect Ukraine’s land and not to attack Russia. Zelensky had said on this that we have continuously developed underground weapon manufacturing centers.
Even though there is a delay in the supply of weapons from our western partners, we are not backing down from our goal. Ukraine will now work to maintain its edge in the war on the basis of its weapons. Ukraine is manufacturing light and affordable weapons like drones and guns in its underground centers and using these, it has occupied more than a thousand square kilometers of Russian land in the last one month.
This policy of Western countries has also been criticized by many experts. According to their articles published in Bloomberg, Ukraine’s hands have been tied due to this policy. If Ukraine had been given the right to use long-range missiles, this war would not have lasted so long.
Apart from civilian centers or cities, many other targets inside Russia could have been attacked with these missiles. These included airports, military bases, communication centers, training centers and other military locations. This would have affected Russia’s economy and it would have been unable to prolong this war.
Although it would not be right to ignore Putin’s nuclear threat, it is also not so easy for Putin to use nuclear weapons because this would also cause him to lose the traditional support he has been getting from countries like China and India and he would become completely isolated, which he never wants.
