The salary of the Chief Justice of India is Rs 2 lakh 80 thousand per month. At the same time, after retirement, he gets Rs 16 lakh 80 thousand every year. Dearness relief is also given separately. Apart from this, the amount of gratuity is Rs 20 lakh. The salaries of Supreme Court judges are given under the Supreme Court Salary Conditions of Service Act, 1958.
Former CJI gets these facilities
Talking about the security provided to DY Chandrachud, there will be 24/7 security at his residence. After retirement, the personal security guard will also remain with him for the next five years. They will get Type-VII accommodation in Delhi. They will get many facilities including domestic staff, driver. You will also get the benefit of ceremonial lounge at the airport. Free phone and internet facilities will also be provided.
During the conversation, DY Chandrachud had said that under the laws, retired judges have to work in several tribunals like the National Green Tribunal (NGT), Telecom Disputes Redressal and Appellate Tribunal and National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission. The cases that come before these tribunals are of great importance. Honest and expert people are needed to hear these cases. It is being speculated that the former CJI may assume some role in the tribunals.
