History of the Island of Saint Martin
St. Martin’s Island is a small island in the northeastern part of the Bay of Bengal.
It is about 9 km south of the tip of the Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Peninsula. It is the southernmost tip of Bangladesh. Thousands of years ago, this island was part of the Teknaf Peninsula.
Due to some portion of the Teknaf Peninsula being submerged, its southernmost part became separated from the mainland of Bangladesh and became an island.

“I could have remained in power if I had surrendered the sovereignty of the island of St Martin and allowed the US to dominate the Bay of Bengal,” the letter, accessed by The Economic Times, reads.
