It was in 1977 when a non-Congress government was formed for the first time in the country under the leadership of Morarji Desai.
In Bihar also, Janata Party had won the assembly elections. Janata Party had won 214 seats out of 324. Karpoori Thakur was then made the Chief Minister.
Thakur became the Chief Minister of the state for the second time. Karpoori Thakur had gone to Delhi to discuss the expansion of his cabinet with the senior leadership of the Janata Party. He was staying in Bihar Bhawan.
Many MLAs from Bihar were also camping in New Delhi at that time. All of them were lobbying to become ministers. Many MLAs wanted to hold a meeting with the senior leadership of the Janata Party while some wanted to meet with Karpoori Thakur to make him a minister.
Karpoori Thakur used to leave Bihar Bhavan early in the morning and return late at night. In such a situation, an upper caste MLA from Bihar came to Bihar Bhawan to meet Karpoori Thakur with the desire to become a minister.
Badh’s elder MLA Rana Shilokhpati Singh belonged to the Thakur community. He saw that Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur was not in his room in Bihar Bhawan.
They came to know that he would return late at night. Then Rana Saheb slept on the Chief Minister’s own bed in his bedroom. He thought that when the Chief Minister would come late at night, he would wake him up and then express his desire to become a minister.
According to senior journalist Surendra Kishore, who was the personal secretary of Karpoori Thakur, when Karpoori Thakur returned to Bihar Bhawan late at night and went to his bedroom, he saw that elderly MLA Rana Saheb was sleeping on his bed, so he did not wake him up but instead spread the carpet on the floor himself. But fell asleep.
When Rana Saheb woke up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, he started crushing Karpoori Thakur’s wrist. He did not realize that someone could sleep on the floor below the Chief Minister’s bedroom. Anyway, Rana Saheb came from the bathroom and went to sleep again.
On the other hand, Karpoori Thakur started having severe pain in his wrist. Despite this he continued to tolerate it. Karpoori Thakur deliberately did not say anything to anyone.
By the time Rana Saheb woke up, Karpoori Thakur had taken bath, got ready and left Bihar Bhavan. Later, Lakshmi Sahu, who was the personal secretary of Karpoori ji at that time, told these things to some people.
