The Congress on Thursday did not clarify its stand on whether top party leaders would attend the consecration ceremony of Ram temple in Ayodhya on January 22.
However, the party said it was grateful for the invitation. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, former party chief Sonia Gandhi and party leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury have been invited for the consecration ceremony of Ram temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh on January 22.
Sources said that Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has sent him an invitation.
When Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal was asked at a press conference whether party leaders would attend the function, he said, “You will get to know about the party’s stand. You will know about the participation on January 22.” Venugopal said, “They have invited us, we are very grateful to them for inviting us. lets see.”
Sources said invitations were sent individually to Kharge, Gandhi and Chaudhary. Former Prime Ministers Manmohan Singh and H.D. were present for the ceremony. Deve Gowda has also received the invitation.
Sources said the invitation was given by a delegation of people associated with the trust. He said that invitations are likely to be sent to other opposition leaders also in the coming days.

Heads of major temples like Kashi Vishwanath, Vaishno Devi and representatives of religious and constitutional institutions, spiritual leader Dalai Lama, Mata Amritanandamayi of Kerala, yoga guru Baba Ramdev, actors Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit, Arun Govil, film director Madhur Bhandarkar, Industrialists like Mukesh Ambani and Anil Ambani, renowned painter Vasudev Kamat and ISRO director Nilesh Desai are also among the invitees.
