The data of PLFS i.e. Periodic Labour Force Survey has been released.
There are reports that Kerala is among the states and union territories facing the most severe unemployment among the youth.
According to the annual report, the unemployment rate for persons aged 15 years and above remains stable at 3.2 per cent from July, 2023 to June, 2024.
The report, citing survey data, said the unemployment rate in Kerala among the 15-29 age group is 29.9 per cent.
Among these, unemployment among women is 47.1 percent and in case of men this figure is 19.3 percent. According to the report, Madhya Pradesh has the lowest unemployment rate in this age group. Gujarat comes next.
Where is the highest unemployment?
The Union Territory of Lakshadweep has recorded the highest unemployment rate of 36.2 percent in the age group of 15 to 29 years. Here the unemployment rate is 79.7 percent in the case of women and 26.2 percent in terms of men.
Next is Andaman and Nicobar Island, where the unemployment rate is 33.6 percent. Here unemployment is 49.5 percent among women and 24 percent among men.
Apart from these, youth unemployment rate is also high in Nagaland, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh. In Goa, this figure is 19.1 percent.

The report released on Monday said that UR for men declined marginally on an annual basis during July 2023-June 2024.
The figure fell from 3.3 per cent to 3.2 per cent. Among women, UR rose from 2.9 per cent to 3.2 per cent during the same period.
The usual labour force participation rate (LFPR) for persons aged 15 years and above during July 2023 – June 2024 was 60.1 per cent as against 57.9 per cent last year. The figure was 78.8 per cent for men and 41.7 per cent for women during the period under review.
The LFPR rate for women above 15 years of age in normal circumstances has increased from 37.0 percent during July, 2022 – June, 2023 to 41.7 percent during July, 2023 – June, 2024.
