Amidst the ongoing tension in the Middle East, America has come into action mode on Venezuela.
In this episode, the US has seized Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro’s private jet Dassault Falcon 900EX. This plane worth $13 million has been taken to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
US officials have argued that it was purchased and exported illegally, in violation of US sanctions.
The plane was headed to a Venezuelan military facility but was also used for international travel, further expanding Maduro’s reach.
US official Matthew S. Axelrod confirmed the seizure, saying, “This seizure should send a clear message that aircraft illegally purchased in the United States for the benefit of sanctioned Venezuelan officials cannot fly without reason.”
Attorney General Merrick B. Garland stressed the seriousness of the situation, saying, “The United States will continue to pursue those who violate our sanctions and export regulations to prevent them from using American resources to undermine American security.”
Maduro uses
The Jet is compared to Venezuela’s Air Force One and is used by Maduro and other high-ranking Venezuelan officials for domestic and international travel.
The Dassault Falcon 900EX, designed by Dassault in 1984, is a popular private jet known for its long-range capabilities. It is used by many governments, including the French Air and Space Force and the Japan Coast Guard.
Fit for international travel
The Dassault Falcon 900EX has many features including a length of 66.4 feet, a wingspan of 63.4 feet and a maximum cruising speed of 482 knots (555 mph). It can travel up to 4,500 nautical miles (5,175 miles) and reach a service ceiling of 51,000 feet making it fit for international travel.
