Why did CJI Chandrachud’s father buy a flat in Pune and why was he advised to keep it till retirement? What was the reason?…

CJI DY Chandrachud is retiring on Sunday. Friday was his last working day, where he gave a farewell speech.

During this, the CJI made everyone aware of what his father had said years ago regarding a flat in Pune.

CJI Chandrachud said that his father had bought a small flat in Pune. When I asked him why are you buying a flat in Pune? When will you go to live there? On this he told me that I know that I will never stay there.

Besides this, I don’t even know how long I am with you, but you keep this flat with you till the end of your tenure as a judge (retirement).

CJI Chandrachud further explained his father’s point and said, “On this I asked him why he was saying this? Then he replied that if you ever feel that your moral integrity or intellectual integrity is being compromised, then imagine that you have a roof over your head.

Never allow yourself to be compromised as a lawyer or judge.” The Chief Justice told that his father was very disciplined.

“But he did not discipline us as children,” he said. He thought that seeing the way he lived a disciplined life, we should learn the ideals of discipline.”

In his speech, the CJI also remembered his mother and told that he used to be very ill in his childhood and there were many chances of me falling ill.

My mother stayed awake the whole night to take care of me, so that I became completely healthy. I remember her saying that medicine is like Ganga and doctors are in the position of Narayana (God).

When I was growing up, she said that I named you Dhananjay, but it is not about money and material wealth, rather I want you to acquire knowledge.

Let us tell you that CJI Chandrachud’s mother Prabha Chandrachud was a classical musician in All India Radio.
