Former chief of Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI, Faiz Hameed, was arrested by the army on Monday.
This action has been taken in the Top City Housing Scheme scam case. The army issued a statement saying, he has been arrested after the Supreme Court ordered an investigation.
Action was taken against Hameed under the provisions of the Pakistan Army Act. The army’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said court martial proceedings have been initiated against him in the scam case.
Why action was taken against the former ISI chief
In fact, a team of the Pakistani Army had conducted an investigation to find out the complaints made against former Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed in the Top City case, in which several cases have come to light against Faiz Ahmed.
The investigation found that Hameed also violated the Pakistan Army Act after retirement. Hameed has also been accused of misuse of power. This is the first time that court martial proceedings have been initiated against a former intelligence chief of Pakistan.
this was the matter
Last year, owner of housing society Top City, Moiz Khan, had complained to the apex court saying that the ISI chief had raided his house and offices without any concrete reason.
Considering the seriousness of the matter, the court had asked him to complain against the concerned officials to the Defense Ministry.
In November 2023, the court in its written order had said that the allegations against former spy chief retired Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed are of extremely serious nature.
If proven true, they will damage the reputation of the country’s armed forces, ISI and Pakistan Rangers, so they cannot be ignored.
Took over the command in 2019
Hameed became the head of Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI in 2019. At that time the Imran government was in power.
He was replaced by Lt. Gen. Nadeem Anjum in October 2021, while Khan was still in power.
