Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi is currently on a three-day visit to America.
On Sunday, he reached Dallas, Texas and discussed several international issues with students at the University of Texas. He said that employment is becoming a big problem in many countries including America, Europe and India.
There is no problem of unemployment in China. He said that unemployment crisis has arisen due to lack of attention on manufacturing sector. There is a need to improve this sector to provide employment in India.
Rahul Gandhi said, there is a problem of employment in the West. There is unemployment in India too. But there are many countries in which there is no unemployment. There is no employment crisis in China. This problem is also not there in Vietnam. At the same time, there are many countries in the world which are struggling with the employment crisis.
If you look at America, it was the centre of global production in the 1940s, 50s and 60s. Cars, washing machines, TVs, everything was made here. After this, this production moved to Korea and Japan. China took over the manufacturing set. Now China has a major contribution in global production.
India also has to focus on the production and manufacturing sector to increase employment. India cannot say that manufacturing is for the Chinese. We have to work on increasing production in a democratic environment.
Unless we do this, the unemployment crisis will not be solved. He said that in America, Europe and India, the unemployment crisis will not be solved without improving manufacturing. And polarization in our politics also happens due to this reason.
Rahul Gandhi said, most of the things in India are ‘Made in China’. That is why China is successful. He also said that loans worth Rs 16 lakh crore of 25 people were waived off in India.
Many industries could have been set up in this amount. He said that when we waive off the debt of the public, questions are raised but when so much debt of some people was waived off, no one raised any questions.
Rahul Gandhi said that in India, big projects are given to only a few people. Only one or two people are being given contracts for ports and defense.
Due to this, the condition of manufacturing in India has deteriorated. Talking about the role of the opposition, he said, it is more important to listen than to speak.
People can be understood better by listening. He said, the opposition is the voice of the people. Parliament is like a battlefield where battles are fought with words. But it is important that this is done with understanding and sensitivity.
