The UN Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) has claimed that the Hamas commander killed in an Israeli attack in Lebanon also worked for the UN.
He was suspended after it was discovered that he had links with a terrorist organization. After coming to know about Fatah Sharif’s connection, UNRWA is under more pressure.
Already this year UNRWA is facing a loss of $80 million. Critics ask whether it was enough to simply remove a Hamas terrorist from its ranks.
Israel had alleged in January that 12 UNRWA employees were also involved in the October 7 attack by Hamas. Since then the UN agency has been investigating.
Let us tell you that in the Hamas attack on Israel, at least 1200 people were killed and 250 were taken captive. Following the allegations, dozens of countries that had donated to UNRWA had withdrawn their efforts. Later, except America, other countries resumed funding.
On Monday, Hamas commander Sharif was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Al Bass, Beirut. According to reports, his wife, son and daughter were also killed in this attack. He was living in a Palestinian refugee camp.
It was reported that for the first time Israel has targeted a camp of Palestinian refugees. Sharif himself never admitted to being associated with Hamas.
However, after his killing, Hamas itself issued a statement saying that one of its commanders had been killed in an Israeli airstrike.
Israel alleges that Palestinian terrorists have infiltrated the UN agency. Israel’s Geneva Embassy said on social media. Sharif was a principal and head of UNRWA Teachers Association Lebanon. Can you guess what his other job was? This shows that there is a big problem in UNRWA.
Meanwhile, UNRWA Commissioner General Philip Lazzaraini said that it was revealed in March that Sharif was associated with the political party of Hamas.
After this he was suspended without even a day’s delay. He said that he was not told that he was the commander of Hamas.
He said, the agency is conducting investigation against him. We follow the rules and nothing can be said until the final result is reached.
