The accused had filed an appeal before the Sindh High Court against his sentence. The report said that during the hearing, the court said that the appellant is an Indian citizen, while the Home Ministry could not confirm his nationality due to lack of efforts.

The bench said that since the appellant has served his sentence, the Jail Superintendent was directed to make arrangements for his deportation back to his country through the Home Department. On Friday, a section official of the ministry said his deportation did not take place due to some procedural issues.

“I find it quite extraordinary that even after a lapse of seven years, the Home Ministry has not been able to confirm whether the appellant is an Indian citizen or not,” Justice Aga said in his order.
