Why not vetoed? Ceasefire proposal passed in UNSC, Israel got angry at America…

On Monday, a resolution was passed in the United Nations Security Council regarding ceasefire in Gaza.

Israel’s perennial ally America abstained during the voting. Israel is furious over America’s decision to abstain from voting.

Israel wanted America to veto this proposal. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that America compromised its principles in the UN today.

Just a few days ago, in the UNSC, America had supported a resolution on ceasefire in which it was talked about the release of hostages for the ceasefire. Russia and China together vetoed that proposal.

The Israeli PM said, today when Algeria and other countries together brought the proposal, Russia and China also joined them. Whereas in this proposal only ceasefire has been mentioned.

There is no talk of release of hostages. In such a situation, America should have used veto power. Sadly, America abandoned its policy and abstained from voting.

Israel says that by not using the veto, America wants to run away from its stand in the UNSC since the beginning.

Israel said, today’s proposal will give Hamas hope that under international pressure Israel will be forced to agree to the ceasefire.

In such a situation, the release of the hostages will remain separate. Netanyahu said he would not send his delegation to the Americans. Meanwhile, these allegations have been rejected by Washington. America said that it has not changed its policy in UNSC.

America said, we wanted to discuss alternatives to the ongoing war on the Rafah border. Israel’s denial is disappointing.

America said, there has been no change in our view. A ground attack on Rafah could be damaging. Let us tell you that the war in Gaza started in October after the Hamas attack on Israel last year.

More than 30 thousand people have lost their lives in the Israeli attack.
