Recently, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar was on a tour of Australia.
During this, he addressed a press conference with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong in the capital Canberra, which was broadcast on Australian media outlet ‘Australia Today’.
This thing irked Canada and Canada’s Justin Trudeau government, angry with this move, has banned the social media handles and pages of ‘Australia Today’. The Foreign Ministry has given this information on Thursday.
During this press conference, S Jaishankar reiterated India’s old stand and said that Canada is making allegations without any solid evidence in the case of murder of pro-Khalistan terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
The foreign minister also refuted Canada’s allegation that Indian Home Minister Amit Shah had ordered the targeting of Sikh activists inside Canada.
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal has described the step taken by Canada out of frustration as Canada’s hypocrisy towards freedom of expression and said that Jaishankar has only raised the issue of political protection and patronage being given to anti-India elements in Canada. .
This incident happened after the attack on Hindus in the Hindu Mahasabha temple complex in Brampton, Canada last Sunday. Canadian PM Justin Trudeau himself along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also condemned the attack on the Hindu temple.
Jaiswal said, “As soon as Australian media outlets telecast the press conference of External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar with Penny Wong on their social media handles, the page was blocked within an hour or so, Whereas a large number of migrants see it. It is no longer available to viewers living in Canada.” “I would say these are actions that once again expose Canada’s hypocrisy towards freedom of expression,” he said.
