The Israeli army has launched an air strike on a Hezbollah base in southern Lebanon.
The attack took place when a ceasefire was in effect between Israel and Hezbollah since Wednesday morning.
According to the Israeli military, this airstrike was carried out at a place where the Hezbollah organization stores medium-range rockets.
The military called it an act of self-defense and said Hezbollah was trying to threaten Israel’s security.
Question on ceasefire
The attack came just hours after the ceasefire, raising questions about whether Israel violated the agreement.
However, Israeli officials have claimed that this step was taken in response to the aggressive activities of Hezbollah.
chances of increasing tension
Southern Lebanon has seen continuous clashes between Hezbollah and Israeli forces in the last few weeks. Recently, Hezbollah had launched several cross-border attacks on Israel, to which the Israeli army responded with cannon and missiles.
According to the AP report, Israeli attacks that lasted for more than 60 days caused massive destruction in Lebanon. Echoes of Israeli attacks were heard everywhere from the capital Beirut to the southern city of Tyre. After the ceasefire, Lebanese people are now returning to their homes. However, after the recent attack, they are now forced to live in fear.
Entire blocks have been destroyed in Dahiyeh, a southern suburb of Beirut, considered a Hezbollah stronghold. Tall buildings have now turned into heaps of broken concrete.
Last month, an Israeli rocket destroyed an apartment, sending a plume of fire and sparks into the air.
A plume of thick black and white smoke extended to the Mediterranean Sea after missile attacks on the southern city of Tyre. At the same time, the intensity of the attacks in village Falavieh city was so high that a car was found upside down among the trees.
How did this bloody game begin?
Israel intensified its attacks in Lebanon in late September. Their objective was to weaken Hezbollah’s capabilities and stop its rocket attacks on northern Israel.
The attacks began when Hezbollah fired rockets at Israel following an attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023. The conflict deepened the humanitarian crisis in Lebanon.
More than 1.2 million Lebanese citizens were forced to flee their homes, while thousands of Israelis also fled areas across the border.
How will the situation change after the ceasefire?
Even after the ceasefire, it will take time for things to return to normal in Beirut and many parts of southern Lebanon. The deepening tension between the two sides has weakened the prospects for peace in the region.
After the recent clashes, the question now is whether this ceasefire will prove to be permanent or is it a sign of the beginning of another conflict.
