Sydney. An 18 feet long pet crocodile died in Australia. It was the world’s largest captive crocodile. It was named Cassius. The world record for the largest crocodile in human captivity was held by Cassius. Australian Wildlife Sanctuary confirmed the death of this giant pet crocodile. Cassius was more than 110 years old. Marineland Melanesia Crocodile Habitat said Cassius weighed more than a ton and had been in declining health since October 15. According to a post from the organisation, based on Green Island near the Queensland tourist city of Cairns, he was very old and was believed to have outlived a wild crocodile. Cassius will be greatly missed, but our love and memories of him will always live on in our hearts, the wildlife sanctuary said. The group’s website said he had been living at the sanctuary since 1987. He was brought from the neighboring Northern Territory, where crocodiles are an important part of the region’s tourism industry. Cassius was a saltwater crocodile. It held the Guinness World Records title as the world’s largest crocodile in captivity. According to Guinness, it won the title after the death in 2013 of Lolong, a crocodile from the Philippines who was 20 feet 3 inches long.
