“Yes, there are Khalistanis in Canada” – Trudeau approves India’s allegations, says – not all Hindus are supporters of Modi…

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has acknowledged the presence of Khalistani supporters in Canada.

Trudeau, however, said these people do not represent the entirety of the Sikh community in Canada.

His statement justifies India’s stand in which India had alleged that the Canadian government is giving shelter to pro-Khalistani elements.

Justin Trudeau also spoke about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s supporters in Canada. He said, “There are supporters of Khalistan in Canada, but they do not represent the Sikh community.

Similarly, there are supporters of the Modi government in Canada, but they do not represent all Hindu Canadians.” He made this statement while addressing the Indian community during Diwali celebrations at Parliament Hill in Ottawa.

With this statement of Trudeau, the situation has become more complicated amidst the increasing diplomatic tension between India and Canada. The tension started when Justin Trudeau alleged the involvement of Indian agents in the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

This incident happened in June of 2023. Nijjar was killed by gunfire outside a gurudwara in British Columbia.

Earlier, in September 2023, relations between Canada and India had worsened. Canada described the Indian High Commissioner as a “person of interest” in the investigation into Nijjar’s murder.

In response, India vehemently denied the allegation and further cooled its relations with Canada.

Recalled the Indian High Commissioner to Ottawa and expelled six Canadian diplomats.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs has stated several times that the Canadian government has not shared any concrete evidence of India’s involvement in Nijjar’s murder.

India had repeatedly demanded information in this regard.

The ministry also accused Prime Minister Trudeau of indulging in vote bank politics and said that the Canadian government did not take adequate steps to deal with Khalistani elements on its soil.

This tension is increasing between India and Canada.

There may be further complications in the relations between the two countries regarding Khalistani activities.
