Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Ukraine on Friday morning after visiting Poland. After reaching the capital Kyiv, President Volodymyr Zelensky warmly welcomed him. In Kyiv, PM Modi gave a message of peace. At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that India supports the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of his country.

Ukrainian President Zelensky said New Delhi’s support is important for his country as everyone in the world should equally respect the UN Charter. After talks with Modi, Zelensky wrote on Twitter: “History was written today. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Ukraine for the first time since the independence of our country.”
President Zelensky said that after this visit we also agreed on a joint statement focusing on the development of strategic partnership, bilateral trade and continued military-technical cooperation. India supports the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
In his opening remarks during the talks, PM Modi said that we come from the land of Mahatma Gandhi, who gave the message of peace to the whole world. The Prime Minister also emphasized India’s commitment to respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries. Modi also apprised Zelensky of his talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Samarkand in September 2022 and in Moscow last month.
Some time ago when I met President Putin in Samarkand, I told him that this is not the era of war. When I went to Russia last month, I said in clear words that the solution to any problem is not found on the battlefield. Solutions come from talks, dialogue and diplomacy and we should move forward in that direction without wasting time. Both sides should sit together and find a way out of this crisis – PM Modi
Modi, who arrived in Ukraine exactly six weeks after his visit to Russia, gave a message to the global community that India is not neutral in the two-year-long Russia-Ukraine war. India has always been with peace. During his meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky, Modi also called for direct talks between Russia and Ukraine so that the war could be ended quickly.
Both PM Modi and Zelensky visited the museum built in memory of the children killed in the war. PM Modi also got emotional after watching the film displayed there. He said that I have visited the museum built in memory of the children along with you.
I have seen the museum. My heart is full. My heart is deeply hurt. Now I feel that the first victim of war is human being and in that too children become the first victims. This is very painful. Such incidents cannot be accepted in any civilized society.
Modi also invited President Zelensky to visit India and said that in this hour of crisis, India has tried to help as much as it could. I assure you that whatever help Ukraine needs from a humanitarian point of view, India will stand with you and go two steps ahead.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented four BHISHMA (India Health Cooperation Initiative for Benefit and Friendship) cubes to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during his visit to Ukraine. Zelenskyy thanked the Prime Minister for the humanitarian assistance of the cubes, which will accelerate the treatment of the injured and help save precious lives. Each BHISHMA cube contains primary care medicines and equipment for all types of injuries and medical conditions.
PM Modi said that today I have brought the sentiments of 140 crore Indians to Ukraine. The sentiments of 140 crore Indians are inspired by humanity. Today I have brought a message of peace to the land of Ukraine. He said that the second path we have chosen is to stay away from war, we have very firmly stayed away from war, but this does not mean that we were neutral, we were not neutral, we have been a party from day one and our side is peace, we come from the land of Buddha where there is no place for war, we come from the land of Mahatma Gandhi, who gave the message of peace to the whole world.
After participating in several meetings, Prime Minister Modi said that my visit to Ukraine was historic. I have come to this great country with the aim of further deepening India-Ukraine friendship. I had a meaningful conversation with President Zelensky. India firmly believes that peace should always prevail. I thank the government and people of Ukraine for their hospitality.
